Help Your Child Acquire a Pleasing Attractive Smile

Beautiful things are built from solid foundations. The same can be said about teeth. When a child suffers from untreated dental issues at an early age, it can lead to various challenges in adulthood that can affect their dental health as well as that all important self-image.

A full confident smile developed early helps establish self-esteem in your children that can build thru-out life. Get a healthy start and allow us to help achieve this at JWEAVER ORTHO, LLC in Claremont, New Hampshire.

We offer interceptive developmental orthodontic treatment to children and young adults in select areas in New Hampshire and Vermont. Read on to learn more about what we do.

What Is Interceptive Developmental Orthodontics?

The primary objective is to identify, correct, and treat habits and conditions that frequently result in permanent changes in the mouth and face that can be harmful as the child grows into adulthood. Examples include:

  • Correcting protruding "buck teeth" in a young child.
  • Addressing overbites, underbites, and other identifiable conditions that can be treated as the child grows older.
  • Stimulating and guiding growth in developing jaws that are too small for permanent teeth to erupt correctly.

Failure to address these issues early frequently results in crowding of the permanent teeth. This can often require the extraction of several adult teeth and necessitate many years of full-banded and costly orthodontic treatment.

The Importance of Early Treatment

Habits such as thumb, finger, or blanket-sucking can cause problems in the development and shape of the arches of the upper and lower jaw and inhibit the teeth from developing more normally in the arches.

  • Does your child breathe through the mouth?
  • Do they have allergies?
  • When their mouth is closed and relaxed, do the upper and lower lips seal together?
  • Does your child have "lazy lips"?
  • Do the front teeth on the top and bottom have a large opening between them when the mouth is closed? Does the tongue spread out into that open space when swallowing?
  • Is the top jaw smaller than the bottom? Are the back teeth on the bottom jaw wider than the top ones?

If you are noticing any of these conditions with your child, from ages 4-14 is a good time to visit our office for a free assessment. We can discuss what we are seeing and give our suggestions as to how, if, and when to begin addressing these problems. Our intent is to harness and direct the child's natural growth patterns in order to achieve more lasting and stable results.

What We Do

At JWEAVER ORTHO, LLC, we use a team approach and work closely with a local myofunctional therapist to help correct harmful oral habits as early as possible. We are also affiliated with a community periodontist who treats tongue tie and other anatomical soft tissue abnormalities.

What Treatment Achieves for Your Child

We seek to eliminate problems early. We monitor growth and address any future issues as they may arise. We try to minimize or forgo any time required in permanent braces.

If desired or necessary, we can use clear aligners or clear braces to finalize some cases. We do not want the child to be stigmatized by "weird" teeth or a 'different" appearance as they grow thru puberty. Kids want to look "normal" and we want to help them do this!

Now What?

When all the permanent teeth have erupted, the child may finish up by using clear aligners or cosmetic braces for a short while. This eliminates any rotations and spacing issues and helps them achieve optimum results. The best part? It can be done at any age well into adulthood.
